Goal: The Centre for Drug Research and Development (CDRD), a national, non-profit drug development and commercialization centre in Vancouver, BC aimed to conduct collaborative R&D with the Eskitis Institute for Cell and Molecular Therapies in Brisbane, Australia, and establish a world-class intercontinental team for drug discovery.
Going Global Innovation Provided: Funding that enabled a CDRD leader to travel to Australia to meet with future collaborators to solidify the partnership and develop a joint R&D plan.
Result: Bilateral R&D collaboration that accelerates drug discovery.
Next Steps: Development of bilateral drug discovery projects that leverage the unique capabilities of research teams in Australia and Canada, and bring novel drugs to market faster.
“Global partnerships are critical to CDRD’s mission of advancing early-stage health research technologies such that they can ultimately be developed into new medicines. With support from Going Global Innovation, we were able to connect and establish a collaboration agreement with scientists at the Eskitis Institute at Griffiths University in Australia. This in turn led to a $1.5 million grant and access to a world-class library of natural products for drug discovery – a valuable resource to expand the R&D capabilities of our organization.”
