Canada @ Mobile World Congress 2010

Canada is ready to take centre stage at this year’s GSMA Mobile World Congress (MWC) held at FIRA of Barcelona, Spain from February 15-18, 2010.

The Government of Canada, alongside its partners, is organizing a Canada Pavilion at this world-class event, which will be attended by more than 65 innovative Canadian companies and organizations. The GSMA Mobile World Congress (MWC) is the largest wireless telecommunication show in the world. The event attracted over 1,300 exhibitors and 47,000 attendees (with 50% from the C-Level and 20% representing the world’s mobile operators) in February 2009. MWC is the gateway to the European wireless market and, increasingly, to the world.

The Government of Canada and its partners are preparing an exciting programme for Canadian companies attending this event in February 2010.

The Canadian programme

Listed below are just some of the highlights of the planned programme:

• Canada Pavilion: The Canada pavilion will be in a new location this year – Hall 2 of the Fira de Barcelona, Stand 2A97 + 2A108.
  
  
• Canadian Trade Commissioners: MWC is the opportunity to meet and discuss market opportunities with visiting Canadian Trade Commissioners from over 15 locations around the world!
  

• Export Development Canada (EDC) matchmaking: EDC is leveraging their financial relationships with major international Tier 1 carriers and network equipment vendors to bring value to Canadian companies attending MWC by organizing face-to-face meetings with these large foreign partners.
  
  Consistent with all previous EDC led matchmaking events, an invitation for a meeting is determined at the sole discretion of the foreign company. EDC will present the foreign company with a list of all known Canadian companies who will be attending MWC and the foreign company will select a short list of Canadian suppliers they would like to meet with. All Canadian companies who are invited to the matchmaking events will be contacted directly by an EDC representative.
  
  IMPORTANT: EDC requests that Canadian companies who will be attending MWC 2010 make their planned attendance known immediately to the Canadian Pavilion organizers by emailing CanadaMWC@international.gc.ca. Declaring your attendance early insures that foreign companies will be presented with your company’s information as a potential matchmaking participant.

• Connect with Canada Breakfast Reception: Featuring presentations from Research in Motion, EDC and key industry leaders, this event will bring together the Canadian presence at MWC – including companies, governments, and clusters – with international industry contacts.

• Canada-France innovation workshop and b2b programme: The goal of the Canada-France innovation workshop and b2b programme will be to facilitate introductions of Canadian innovation clusters and companies to their French counterparts with common areas of interest in research and development.

• Canada – UK – Spain networking reception: What are the challenges that lie ahead for the wireless industry? This event will feature an interactive panel discussion on the future of mobile and be followed by the opportunity to network over refreshments. Confirmed panellists include speakers from Canada's Wireless Industry Partnership (WIP) and UK's O2.
