Aerospace & Defence

Aerospace & Defence is a priority sector for our trade office in Manitoba.

The Aerospace and Defence industry in Manitoba is the 3rd largest in Canada and the largest in Western Canada. The sector is comprised of more than 40 aerospace firms that specialize in:

• Manufacturing  
• Maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO)
• Training and services

The industry generates 1.3 billion dollars in annual revenues, 85% of which are international sales mostly to the U.S., Europe, The Americas and Asia/Pacific.

More than 5,000 people are employed in this industry, a figure that represents the 2nd largest concentration of employees in Canada in this sector.

Environmental Industries

Environmental Industries is a priority sector for our trade office in Manitoba.

Since ratification of the Kyoto Protocol in 2005, Manitoba has taken several actions (including the recent enactment of legislation) aimed at meeting and exceeding the established climate change targets.

The sector has been developing and growing fast, with both private business and government organizations actively participating. Sector strengths are in Green Building and Renewable Energy.

Agricultural Technology and Equipment

Agricultural Technology and Equipment is a priority sector for our trade office in Manitoba.

Manitoba is a world-class producer and exporter of leading-edge dry land farming technology. As much as 70% of production is exported to over 100 countries with the majority bound for United States and other market destinations such as:

• Kazakhstan
• Germany
• Ukraine
• Australia

Comprising in excess of 250 Manitoba-based firms, this diverse yet integrated industry sector employs an estimated 5,800 people.

Information, Communications Technology is a priority sector for our trade office in Manitoba.

Manitoba has over 1,500 companies operating in the ICT sector, with approximately 80% of these firms located in Winnipeg. The industry is supported by an extensive network of research and development organizations and industry associations.

Life Sciences is a priority sector for our trade office in Manitoba.

The Life Sciences sector in Manitoba empolys over 2,300 people. The industry is complemented by 30 research and development organizations with over 1,900 employees.

Manitoba’s strengths lie in:

• pharmaceutical & biopharmaceutical R&D and production
• high tech medical devices
• agricultural biotechnology

Arts and Culture Industries is a priority sector for our trade office in Manitoba.

Manitoba’s cultural industries include:

• music and sound recording
• film and video production
• book publishing
• performing and visual arts

With an estimated 20,000 cultural workers, the cultural sectors labour force comprises over 2 percent of the overall labour force in Manitoba and generates over 400 million dollars in total earnings. Manitoba’s film, television, and new media production labour tax credits are among the highest incentives in Canada and have assisted the sectors in their recent rapid growth.
