Trade Commissioner Service - Dominican Republic
Welcome to the office of the Trade Commissioner Service in Santo Domingo. The mandate of the Commercial Section of the Canadian Embassy in Santo Domingo is to promote and protect Canada's economic interests in the Dominican Republic. In this context, we support the efforts of Canadian companies which have selected the Dominican Republic as a target market for their products, services, technologies and investments.
Bilateral trade between the two nations reached C$410.9 million in 2012. Canada exported a total of C$127.4 million worth of goods in 2012 to the DR, with top products exported being smoked herring, potash, wheat, and newsprint. Imports from the DR reached C$283.5, with main imports being gold, medical supplies, electric components, and textiles.
Canada is currently the second largest foreign investor in the Dominican Republic, after the United States, with a cumulative investment of C$5.3b to 2012. Main investment areas for Canadian companies are mining, financial services, textile manufacturing, and tourism.
