Hong Kong's well-educated, English-speaking and internationally focussed business community controls huge flows of goods, services and investments. Hong Kong has a strong services sector with a full range of modern business services.  It is the home of the world's largest airport in terms of throughput, the largest financial centre in Asia, after Tokyo, and the 5th largest financial centre in the world. Hong Kong is the most important regional centre in Asia - home to over 6,440 international firms, 3,890 of which use Hong Kong for their regional headquarters or offices. Hong Kong ranks consistently within the world's top 10 trades of goods, with imports in 2008 of US$388 billion, and exports of US$336 billion. Hong Kong's service sector registered imports of US$46 billion and exports of US$92 billion in 2008. Hong Kong offers a tremendous array of business opportunities, and is an excellent platform for doing business in Asia.

Hong Kong offers excellent commercial opportunities to Canadian firms. In 2008, Canada exported C$1.8 billion in goods to Hong Kong, making it our 16th largest export destination for goods, and probably higher in terms of services. Hong Kong companies have cumulative investments in Canada of $6 billion. In addition to having a strong domestic market, Hong Kong also remains an important door to the Chinese market. Hong Kong importers often take Canadian products into China. Sales in Hong Kong can also be used to showcase Canadian products and technologies to buyers in China. Hong Kong is a logical starting point for Canadian firms interested in getting a foothold in Asia.

From Hong Kong, we also cover Macao.
