Trade Commissioner Service - Japan
We promote Canada's economic interests and assist Canadian businesses in exporting to the northern part of Japan.
Our territory, Hokkaido, is Japan's second largest northernmost island nearly the size of New Brunswick. Sapporo is the capital city and the regional business centre. With a population of 5.8 million, Hokkaido's GDP is roughly equivalent to that of Alberta and accounts for 4 percent of Japan's total GDP.
Canada's main exports to Hokkaido are fish, seafood and building products. Our office also focuses on the agri-food and value-added ICT sectors as well as on identifying opportunities for partnering, joint ventures and science & technology transfers.
