Mission Description

The Canadian Ocean Technology Innovation Mission to Brazil 2017 will take place on the margins of OTC Brasil from October 23-27. OTC is the world’s most renowned and visited oil & gas trade show and conference, originally taking place in Houston, today with editions in Brazil, the Arctic and Asia. The event brings together offshore industry leaders, contractors, operators, technology developers and the academia to exchange best practices, advance scientific technical knowledge and network.

The program includes a visit to COPPE/UFRJ University Subsea Engineering Post Graduation Department, the largest and one of the most renowned R&D Engineering Centers in Latin America;  visits and meetings with EMBRAPII (Research and Industrial Innovation Brazilian Company), a visit and presentations at CENPES, Petrobras Research Center and local business accelerators.

This will be an excellent opportunity to meet with major local players and network with the offshore value chain in Brazil. The program aims at promoting innovation-oriented partnerships, facilitating market access and identifying opportunities for collaboration between Canadian and Brazilian companies.

Mission Program

The program will comprise market briefings, networking events with the local oil & gas and ocean tech community, partnership development and one-on-one meeting sessions with Brazilian counterparts. This mission will provide Canadian companies with a unique opportunity to establish a close relationship with key Brazilian players, R&D & innovation promoters and accelerators which will enable R&D & Innovation cooperation leading to business co-development between Canada and Brazil.

Below is a preliminary agenda of the mission:

The Oil & Gas/Offshore Sector in Brazil

The Ocean Tech sector in Brazil is led by a booming offshore industry which receives on average over U$ 16 billion per year for exploration & production projects and is responsible for approximately 12% of the country’s GDP. Despite the oil crisis, Brazil’s fragile economy and Petrobras’ financial difficulties, new opportunities are developing in the local market. Reasons why both domestic and international players are considering and effectively investing, exploring and developing new businesses in Brazil include:

It is expected that Brazil will continue to lead global offshore platform orders in the coming years. Equipment, services and technologies providing solutions to the entire offshore business value chain are of high interest, mainly offshore decommissioning, offshore platform maintenance, dynamic positioning, navigation systems, remote sensing, wireless maritime monitoring, artificial intelligence for offshore operations, and wireless data transmission in subsea environments.
