Hong Kong sustainability tech - Canadian Technology Accelerator

Awareness is growing around the world to limit climate change and reduce waste for the long-term livability of our planet and future generations. There is increasing pressure from the Government, civil society, and consumers on corporations to:

  • be more sustainable 
  • be responsible stakeholders
  • show a pathway to net zero and be more sustainable

The Canadian Technology Accelerator (CTA) program in Hong Kong (HK) aims to help Canadian Sustainable Tech businesses navigate the market, and to connect with potential:

  • partners
  • buyers
  • investors

Who should apply

We are looking for high-potential Canadian sustainable technologies that can help companies and industries decarbonize and reduce waste. Companies must be interested in expanding into Asia with their end users being:

  • property developers/construction companies 
  • utilities 
  • hospitality 
  • textiles/sourcing 
  • transportation (auto/air/maritime)
  • food and beverage (F&B)
  • brands 
  • financial Services 

Technologies could include: 

  • green building technologies, workplace safety technologies 
  • energy management, battery storage, smart grid, carbon capture 
  • solutions to help reduce kitchen waste, water leak detections sensors
  • alternative dyes, sustainable fabrics, supply chain visibility software 
  • low carbon fuels 
  • biodegradable plastics and utensils, alternative meats 
  • green packaging 
  • climate risk assessment software  

Companies should have at least one of the following characteristics:

  • raised a round of funding from institutional investors
  • existing market traction – ideally companies that already have sold to customers in North America, Europe or East and Southeast Asia. 
  • senior management who can commit to participating in the entire program

How the program works

The program has an in-market portion. We recommend companies be present in HK during HK Green Week and the ReThink Conference (Sept. 8 to 12) to make the most out of business development and investment opportunitiesThe program includes: 

  • virtual webinars before and after the in-market program 
  • targeted business-to-business (B2B) meetings and networking opportunities with potential local partners, investors and clients

August 2025: Online programming 

  • Week 3: Onboarding and Pre-Departure call. Welcoming and logistics.
  • Week 4: Company sharing – A Canadian company that has successfully sold to the HK market to share about their experience.  

September 2025: In-market programming

Wed, Sept. 10th (could be subject to change):

9:00 am – Meeting with Business Environment Council (BEC) 
The Business Environment Council (BEC) is an independent membership organization, established by the business sector in Hong Kong. 

BEC has been a leader in promoting environmental excellence. It encourages the use of clean technologies and practices that reduce waste, conserve resources, and prevent pollution. BEC also works to improve corporate environmental and social responsibility.

11:00am – Pick up passes at ReThink and set up booth

12:30pm – Lunch Briefing by the Trade Commissioners Service (TCS) 

The TCS in HK will give an overview of the HK cleantech ecosystem and the opportunities in market. 

2:00pm – Visit LINK Sustainability Lab and Meeting with LINK REIT Sustainability team 

Link is a leading real estate investor and manager with a diversified portfolio including;

  • retail facilities
  • car parks
  • offices
  • logistics assets

Its portfolio contains 154 properties across:

  • Hong Kong
  • mainland China
  • Australia
  • Singapore
  • the United Kingdom

4:00pm – Tour of The Mills and meeting the Fabrica team

Originally a textile mill, The Mills has been transformed into a space for innovation in:

  • textile
  • supply chain
  • agtech
  • sustainability 

The Mills is under The Nanfung Group, a local HK conglomerate. 

Fabrica is an investment fund under The Mills. It focuses on incubating and investing in sustainable innovators, and supporting industry and community initiatives related to innovation and sustainability.

The Mills has over 25 portfolio companies and incubatees.

5:30pm – Evening Reception with the Canadian Chamber and HK Corporates/Investors 

Meet with the Canadian Chamber Sustainable Development and Innovation Committee members, as well as corporates and investors in HK. The meeting includes a:

  • pitch
  • panel session
  • Q&A

Thurs to Fri, September 11 to 12: Attend the Re-think Conference  

September 30: Follow up and wrap-up call
